Smith, Merrill win Bassmasters Open Tournament

The Canyon Lake Bassmasters Club held its Open Tournament on March 20 from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. Twenty-one anglers on 11 boats participated in the tournament. Teams weighed in their best five fish.

The team of Travis Smith and Joe Merrill reeled in first place with a total fish weight of 21.51 lbs. Kevin Hugo and Rob Castner came in second place with five fish weighing in at 21.30 lbs. Randy Kemble and Jon Kemble took third place with a total fish weight of 20.25 lbs.

Jon Kemble earned the “Big Fish” title with a bass weighing in at 7.74lbs.

All fish were released back into the lake after being weighed.

Canyon Lakers who like to fish and want to improve their skills in a friendly, competitive environment are invited to join the Bassmasters. For membership information, contact Travis Smith at 951-525-7550.
